About The Game

Gameplay

Document your time in the wilderness through journaling and evolving visual elements. Sketch inventory, draw Ward runes, create a map, and build a scrapbook of memories. It's all that will be left when you're gone.

Cinderedge features over 150 prompts with each card presenting a scenario that progresses each concurrent time you pull it. The gameplay loop is simple and easy to learn in just minutes, but creates meaningful and narrative choices as you balance your health, inventory, memories, mind, and the Ward's stability.

About The Game

Three Vital Resources

Each week, you are presented with a scenario or occurrence, such as finding mysterious ruins, discovering your shelter has been destroyed, or the Ward turning to meat.

You'll document these events in your journal while managing three vital resources:

  • HP - Your health and wellbeing.
  • MIND - Your grip on reality and sense of self.
  • WARD - The structural integrity of the magical barrier holding back the apocalypse.

About The Game

Three Distinct Chapters

The game catalogues your descent through three distinct chapters. Wake Up, Voices, and Burn. You progress chapters when one of your HP, MIND, or WARD, reaches zero.

Your Ward is more than just a magical barrier. It's a companion (or parasite) with its own needs and personality. It may comfort you, punish you, or even feed on you.

Sacrifice memories to restore your sanity, watch them fade when you use them for comfort, or lose them entirely to the Ward's hunger.

FAQ

Yes. The game is designed for mature players who want to explore difficult emotions in a structured, safe environment. Content warnings include mental illness, derealization, dissociation, death and dying, body horror, memory loss, self-harm, suicidal ideation, violence against animals, addiction, and substance abuse.

The game is usually over in an average of 26 prompts, you could do a "run" in about 4-6 hours, but if you are sketching, mapmaking, scrapbooking, or doing a significant amount of writing it can take 4-5x that. I also include some alternative rules for longer playthroughs.

A journal, pen, set of playing cards, and 2d6 (Two standard six-sided dice) are ideal. You only NEED the book though, as there is room to write in the margins, a character sheet, number/card randomizers, and such in the appendices.
